WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR CHILD'S FIRST TRACK PRACTICE
· 5 min read · By Stride Nation Elite
The first track practice can feel unfamiliar for families new to AAU track and field. At Stride Nation Elite, we welcome athletes ages 6–18 at all experience levels — including complete beginners.
For the first visit, athletes should wear running shoes (not spikes), bring water, and dress for Texas heat. Arrive 10–15 minutes early so coaches can welcome your athlete and begin warm-ups on time. Spikes are not required for practice; consult your coach before buying event-specific spikes for meets.
Coaches introduce fundamentals — posture, arm action, starts, and age-appropriate speed drills — in a structured, encouraging environment. Parents can follow the Join page steps or contact Operations before attending so we know to expect you.
Club fees and AAU membership can be handled after your athlete decides to continue. Our goal at the first practice is simple: help your child move well, feel confident, and enjoy being part of the team.
